Cuckmere Haven
Cuckmere Haven (or the Cuckmere Estuary) is an area of flood plains where the River Cuckmere meets the English Channel between Eastbourne and Seaford.
Cuckmere Haven featured heavily in World War II. Pill boxes, anti-tank obstacles, ditches can still be seen. The site was used to confuse bombers into thinking they were over Newhaven, by placing night-lights and setting up a fake runway nearby. During the 16th, 17th & 18th centuries the beach was used by smugglers.

River Cuckmere
The River Cuckmere rises near Heathfield in East Sussex, England on the southern slopes of the Weald. The name of the river probably comes from an Old English word meaning fast-flowing. After crossing the Low Weald area, the Cuckmere creates a gap through the South Downs ( Link). It reaches the English Channel at Cuckmere Haven ( Link
) east of Seaford near the Seven Sisters ( Link
). The lower part of its course is marked by meandering, which is a well-known feature of the area. The Cuckmere Valley Nature Reserve is located here as is the Seven Sisters Country Park ( Link
