The Future Monument
The Future Monument
This was created by German artist Jochen Gerz and is a glass obelisk made from fused and laminated glass, lit up at night from within by a spotlight placed in the ground. It symbolises Coventry's aspirations as a City of peace and reconciliation. It is surrounded by plaques sunk in the floor each of which represents a former enemy of Coventry, now a friend.
