Grouse butt on Dumbarton Muir
Grouse butt on Dumbarton Muir
The indistinct and irregular low mound at the centre of this photograph is all that remains of a grouse butt. The one shown here is the southernmost of a line of seven that are depicted on the 1:25000 OS map. For the one at the other end of the line, and for further information, see NS4679 : Grouse butt on Dumbarton Muir. See NS4779 : A burn on Dumbarton Muir for their setting.

In the present photograph, Auchineden Hill (NS4980) appears in the central part of the background, providing an indication of the view direction.
