Trees by the Lower Pen Pond, Richmond Park, in early spring
Trees by the Lower Pen Pond, Richmond Park, in early spring
The trees showing distinctly green are pollard willows, growing along the bank which dams the pond at its downstream end. Behind them, the taller trees with pale grey-green foliage are poplars. Further away, the oaks of Sawpits Plantation appear dark, with very little green showing.

This shot was taken on April 7th, 2012. I took a shot of this same line of trees (but from a very different angle) on April 6th, 2010: LinkExternal link The difference in angle makes comparison difficult, but it's pretty clear that the trees were less advanced that year - following a much colder, longer winter. March 2012 was one of the mildest on record.
