Velvet Mites
There are several species of Velvet Mite in Britain (it would be pointless to speculate about which one is shown here). From above, their body shape resembles a strawberry, with the broader end at the front: NS4573 : A Velvet Mite. They are arachnids rather than insects.
I encountered these ones in the woods beside a NS4573 : Footpath above the shore. For mites, they were surprisingly large.
