near to Tinsley, Sheffield, Great Britain

Top Lock at Tinsley
This is the last lock coming up from Tinsley, and from here the canal is on the same level into Sheffield. Water is pumped into the canal through the pipe at left to keep the water level up. The trio are participating in the Geograph conference walk along the canal.
Sheffield and Tinsley Canal
The Sheffield and Tinsley Canal was opened in 1814 to carry boats between the navigable River Don at Tinsley and a new basin close to the heart of Sheffield. Before this date, goods had to be carried over poor roads to Tinsley Wharf on the River Don. Link
