The Chimney House, Kelham Island
The Chimney House (LinkExternal link ) is a conference and wedding reception venue at Kelham Island. The stretch of water in front is the goit, or mill race which was built in the 12th century, which diverted water from the River Don to power a corn mill and later served the water wheels powering the workshops of the area during its industrial heyday; it was the building of this goit which created the “island”.
