Looking southwest across the snow covered fields near Newhouses. The overnight blizzard had plastered the stone walls with snow, and although the snow had stopped falling the wind remained strong and bitterly cold.
April snow in the Yorkshire Dales 2012

Overnight on the 3rd April 2012, light rain became sleet, which in turn became a blizzard that covered the Yorkshire Dales in a blanket of snow. By mid morning on the 4th the snow was already melting, however, the volume of snow that had fallen on the fells produced deep drifts that blocked some lanes, and sadly killed many new-born lambs. Nevertheless, the walker, who is fortunate in not having to worry about such things, was provided with wonderful views throughout the day.
