The road to High Birkwith in the snow
Looking north along the road to High Birkwith. What the photograph doesn't show is the strong and bitterly cold wind blowing directly towards the photographer.
April snow in the Yorkshire Dales 2012
Overnight on the 3rd April 2012, light rain became sleet, which in turn became a blizzard that covered the Yorkshire Dales in a blanket of snow. By mid morning on the 4th the snow was already melting, however, the volume of snow that had fallen on the fells produced deep drifts that blocked some lanes, and sadly killed many new-born lambs. Nevertheless, the walker, who is fortunate in not having to worry about such things, was provided with wonderful views throughout the day.
