Seal Chart Common is part of the Knole Estate and for many centuries was grazed by animals creating an open heathland. With the decline of grazing the trees have re-established themselves creating broad-leafed woodlands. The woods are extensively coppiced and are still felled today. Much of the woodland is a SSSI.
