Quicksaw Plantation at Mayfield Alpacas
The plantation forms a shelter belt on two sides of the farm. This part, with a dry ditch beside it, lies between the fields and Fulwood Lane.
Mayfield Alpacas
The Mayfield Alpaca farm near Ringinglow was started by a service engineer who had tired of spending so much time working away from home and family. He bought the 45 acre Quicksaw Farm and acquired his first livestock. The herd has gone from strength to strength with a very successful breeding programme.
Alpacas (Vicugna pacos) are related to vicuna and llamas. They were not bred as beasts of burden but solely for their soft fibre.
The farm offers instruction in alpaca husbandry, hosts school visits and offers a visitor centre, cafe and shop where, amongst other things, alpaca clothing and yarn may be purchased.
