View westwards, towards the great Carriage and Locomotive Depots serving Paddington, ex-GWR. Up above is the Grand Union Canal, the path along which led to the Depots and which was an ideal spot for train-watching, the photograph being taken from the footbridge that led down to the tracks and Old Common East Junction Box opposite. The train is heading for the dedicated Empty Carriage Lines into Paddington, headed by smart Collett 4-6-0 No. 4909 'Blakesley Hall' (built 1/29, withdrawn 9/62).
