Forest Lodge, a Grade-II listed building can be seen at the Mansfield Road entrance to Forest Recreation Ground. It was designed in 1856/7 by Henry Moses Wood, the Borough Surveyor, in Greek Revival style and by 1861 it was in use as a police station with custodial accommodation in its basement. During the 1950s and 1960s the property was tied accommodation for John and Madeline Parnham and a son, John, when Mr Parnham was Park Superintendent for The Forest. The Lodge was restored in 2013 at a cost of 5.2m. The Forest Recreation Ground was a feature of the original 1845 Inclosure Act, designed to preserve 80 acres of Sherwood Forest for recreational use.
