NM3598 : Rocky Landscape

Rocky Landscape
Rocky Landscape
Were it not for the rank grass and heather, this scene would remind me forcibly of the fresh lava fields in the Big Island of Hawaii. The rocks here, however, were not extruded on the surface of the Earth like the Hawaiian lavas, but formed in a magma chamber deep down in the crust. It's fascinating that they can develop into such similar topography.
