Wrought Iron Gates
Wrought Iron Gates
The gates are rather incongruously sited in a sheep-proof fence; it may be that this is not their original site. Presumably MB stands for Monica Bullough, wife of Sir George Bullough. Known as Lady Monica, but born Monique Lily de la Pasture, she was the eldest daughter of the Fourth Marquis de la Pasture, from Montreuil-sur-Mer in France. It was she who sold the entire island to the Nature Conservancy Council in 1957, retaining only the mausoleum at Harris in her ownership.
