SP1363 : Woodland enclosing the end of a field

near to Wootton Wawen, Warwickshire, Great Britain

Woodland enclosing the end of a field
Woodland enclosing the end of a field
The Arden landscape has been created over the centuries by farmers and others clearing the oak forest for timber and grazing wood pasture. The forest was nibbled away leaving today's characteristic irregular fragments of woodland, and the permanent pasture is being gradually converted to arable. This almost chance view gives an impression of what wood pasture might have looked like, given a few animals.
Private land: I had misread the map and the ground, again, and strayed from the public footpath.
