Ruined Black House
At Port-na-Caranean there is a row of long-abandoned black houses. Black houses were the tradition style of house in the Hebrides, so called because there was no chimney, and smoke simply filtered out through the thatch. The thick walls and rounded corners are traditional. April is a good time to see the ruins, because later in the year they will ba all but hidden among bracken and brambles.
