Great Dixter
First recorded in 1220 the current Grade I Listed Great Dixter is based on a timber-framed hall-house of about 1445 built for Richard Wakehurst. It had major alterations in 1595 but one of the largest timber-framed halls in the country remains almost intact. The south-east wing being a house brought from Benenden and re-erected by Sir Edwin Lutyens who restored the house in 1910-1912. Lutyens also erected offices on the site of the buttery wing that was demolished in 1909.
