Several dry pits were seen in May's Wood, some larger and deeper than this. The map of the countryside to the west is notable for the number of pits shown.
May’s Wood
May’s Wood is pleasant and spacious mixed woodland managed by the West Midlands Forest District of the Forestry Commission, England, based at Rugeley, Staffordshire. The wood occupies about 20 hectares on a low summit northwest of Wootton Wawen. There is public access from Mayswood Road. At the time of the photograph a public consultation was being held about the Forest Design Plan for the wood.
