Remnants of the incline stairway remain alongside the cable casements and provide a quick access up to Ponc Upper Penrhydd, thus avoiding the circuitous alpine bends of the lorry road created in the late 1950s. SH5960 : Hairpin bend on the 1950s lorry road at Penrhydd The wire fence is a recent introduction, aimed mainly at deterring sheep from wandering into the more dangerous parts of the quarry.
