Broadgate House, Broadgate, Coventry
Sitting in the south-west corner of the square at the heart of Coventry's much-vaunted post-war reconstruction. Lady Godiva is on the right (SP3379 : Statue of Lady Godiva). It was built in 1953 to the designs of the City Architect, Donald Gibson. Pevsner regarded most of the architecture as "undistinguished", but admired the overall plan, conceived by Gibson from 1952-55, and his successor, Arthur Ling, from 1955-64. See also SP3379 : Broadgate, Coventry.
The building work was part of an ambitious redevelopment scheme, spurred on by the 2012 Olympics, some of whose football matches will be played in Coventry City's stadium.
