Holberry Cascades, Sheffield
Holberry Cascades, Sheffield
Two of the eight bronze water vessels at the edges of the Peace Gardens, designed, like much of the street furniture including the foreground bench, by Brian Asquith. The stone plinths supporting the vessels, and decorated with fish and plant life, are the work of Richard Perry. The cascades are named after Samuel Holberry, a local Chartist leader who died of consumption in York jail at the age of 27. LinkExternal link In the background is the Town Hall. This was taken in a blizzard; the streaks visible against the cascades illustrate the angle and direction of the driving snow.
