SP3378 : Kirby House, Little Park Street, Coventry

Kirby House, Little Park Street, Coventry
Kirby House, Little Park Street, Coventry
One of three sublime early-Georgian houses surviving in the city centre. This is in a recognisable provincial Baroque style, very fine, but the pediment above the door pushes awkwardly into the window above and the capitals of the Corinthian pilasters are at mid-storey. It was built perhaps c1720 (and altered later, e.g. the paterae above the capitals). The architectural historian Andor Gomme has proposed, on stylistic grounds, Francis Smith ('Smith of Warwick') as the architect. Grade II* listed.
At the time it was occupied by a Citizens Advice Bureau.
