A Pembrokeshire hedge
A fine example of the typical field boundary of West Wales, a free-standing bank constructed from a mixture of stone and earth. In this case the bank has been given an external layer of stones, more usually the stone component is covered with earth. Either way, these banks are enduring, provide good shelter for stock and create a valuable habitat for plant and animal life.
