The perimeter embankment of the Dinorwig HEP station's surge pond
The surge pond is located at the eastern end of the former Ponc Alice, the highest gallery at Dinorwig Quarry. When water from Marchlyn Mawr reservoir is released down the vertical shaft to the power station there is an enormous surge in pressure. This pressure is relieved through the surge pond. This photograph, taken looking upwards from Ponc Jubilee, shows the southern perimeter of the surge pond, the high wire fencing surrounding the site and the control house next to the gate.
