Scaffolding beneath 400 KV electricity lines
Scaffolding beneath 400 KV electricity lines
The 400 KV lines run from Fawley Power Station to Lovedean main grid electricity substation. They were being refurbished. The elaborate scaffolding was needed to protect the tiny green coloured 11 KV lines which cross beneath. One can't help thinking that in the long run it would have been cheaper to bury the 11 KV line as it passes beneath the 400 KV one.

According to National Grid's Gridline magazine, winter 2011 edition,"full refurbishment is required on the Fawley to Lovedean 400 KV overhead lines". The 22.4 Km route, with 65 towers, crosses residential, business and rural land, including the Botley Wood SSSI.
