River Thames, Southwark Bridge and The Shard
River Thames, Southwark Bridge and The Shard
Shard London Bridge, previously known as London Bridge Tower (LinkExternal link - Design Build) and also known as the Shard of Glass (LinkExternal link New Civil Engineer), is a pyramid-shaped mixed use skyscraper building under construction in Southwark, South of the River Thames. Standing almost 310 metres tall, it is the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom, the second tallest building in Europe and the tallest in The European Union.

Shard London Bridge replaced Southwark Towers, a 24-storey office building constructed on the site in 1976. When completed, the tower will have 72 habitable floors, with a viewing gallery and open-air observation deck on the 72nd floor. It will be clad entirely in glass. It is scheduled to be opened in 5 July 2012.
