Obelisk in Fairford Park
Obelisk in Fairford Park
Gloucestershire has a number of inscriptionless columns which commemorate some forgotten event or person. At Fairford Park a comprehensive school stands on the site of the seventeenth century mansion, demolished in the 1950s. An elegant but short eighteenth century column, perhaps by Sir John Soane, who carried out some alterations to the house in 1789, stands in a field to the north.
