According to The Independent it is one of the ten best chippies in the country (in 2006), running since 1902 Archive LinkExternal link 'Lez Brierley uses local potatoes and a secret-recipe batter. The house next door has a 1694 date stone so they had to wait over two centuries before they could get a decent fish supper.
