SU2107 : Wet track on Backley Plain, New Forest

3 km from Picket Post, Hampshire, Great Britain

Wet track on Backley Plain, New Forest
Wet track on Backley Plain, New Forest
The heath on top of the ridges usually drains quite quickly, but in the wetter seasons it can become waterlogged due to the underlying clay. This track across Backley Plain runs parallel to the dual carriageway, and where the soil has become compacted water is more likely to pool.
