Frocester estate barn - water turbine drive shaft
Frocester estate barn - water turbine drive shaft
This massive estate barn is 13th century and was reroofed in the 16th century. It is still in use as a working farm building after 700 years and the owner will let you in if you ask at any reasonable daylight hour.
This is the vertical output shaft from a 19th century Whitelaw and Sturritt water turbine that drove barn machinery until the 1940s. The turbine is now buried in grain but I suspect it may be a reaction type 'Scotch' turbine.
