Snake Pass Area - Derbyshire
The Ashopton viaduct that carries the Snake Pass (A57) towards Hollow Meadows & to Sheffield (via the left-hand side of the bridge) and towards The Snake Inn and Glossop (at the right-hand side when one reaches the junction that lies ahead). Naming the viaduct Ashopton viaduct was a nod to the small village of the same name, in the vale of the River Ashop that was demolished in the early 1940s, along with neighbouring village of Derwent, to allow for the initial filling of Ladybower Reservoir. Great Tor - part of the Bamford Edge rocky outcrop can be seen in the distance, beyond the left-hand side of the viaduct.
