Port Ellen and Loch Lẹdamais
Port Ellen is slightly more populous than Islay's administrative centre at Bowmore. It clusters around a little bay called Loch Lẹdamais and is the centre of the island's famous whisky industry. It is also the principal port for the Caledonian MacBrayne ferries that link the island to the mainland, the other being Port Askaig (see NR4369 : Port Askaig from Islay ferry)
