Roadside crucifix outside 'The Sanctuary', West Street, Alfriston
Erected by Alice Gregory in 1919. According to the BBC History site, the house called 'The Sanctuary' was built by Dean Gregory of St. Paul's Cathedral. When the foundations were dug many human bones were unearthed. The area was the site of a pre-Christian burial ground, and the Oberammergau Cross was erected by Dean Gregory's daughter Alice to commemorate this.
