Hayfields at Litton
Hayfields at Litton
The field boundaries here are reminders of the medieval strip farming, the strip fields being mainly enclosed by stone wall boundaries by the 17th century. The fields running parallel to each other and at right-angles to the main village street. In medieval times, these were arable strips worked behind the crofters’ cottages.
