Work on leat above Blaenycwm
Work on leat above Blaenycwm, taken 5 years ago
Extensive work is taking place on this old mining leat, which traverses the steep slopes above the Ystwyth, up valley from Blaenycwm. I wondered if it was to do was a miniature hydro-electric scheme, but just off the left hand side of the pic whatever-it-is leaves the leat and descends fairly steeply to Blaenycwm. One possibility is that the leat is being converted into a path, to take pedestrians and cyclists away from the sometimes dangerous traffic on the mountain road.

Note added: it is indeed a mimi-hydro scheme; the powerhouse can be seen in SN8275 : The Ystwyth at Blaenycwm.
