King Edward Mine museum - steam engine
Formerly on display at Poldark Mine, this true vertical single cylinder steam engine is now on display at this former school of mines, now a museum. It is claimed to have been used at the works of Holman Bros in Camborne and dates from c1870. The cylinder has a slide valve, the piston rod is guided by a bush with a pitchfork connecting rod and the flywheel appears to be of a composite (wrought iron spokes, cast iron rim and hub) construction. The governor is more modern and appears to be of the Law & Pinkney type that I have seen on an engine by Holman Bros. The engine is not fully re-erected and is easily overlooked as it is rather hidden in a corner.
