Heartlands Project - Robinson's Shaft beam engine
Heartlands Project - Robinson's Shaft beam engine
This is the 1854 built 80" cylinder Cornish beam pumping engine that worked here from 1903 to 1955 and is now preserved. This is the lower chamber with the driver's position in front of the photographer. Most of the gearwork is swathed in greease and plastic so it isn't very photogenic at the moment. The cylinder has had its lagging removed too and current plans seem to be for hydraulic operation rather than the more expensive steam.
