Heartlands Project - Robinson's Shaft Cornish beam engine

The middle chamber of the 1854 built beam engine that worked until 1955. The plastic covers the steam and equilibrium valves that are on opposite sides of the cylinders - a feature of the designer's - Samuel Grose - to improve efficiency. This engine was preserved but not easily accessible for many years as it was on a working mine and then an abandoned mine. It is now included in the Heartlands regeneration project and in 2012 there were two guided tours per day. However, these are quite rushed and one shouldn't expect the guide to have an in depth knowledge of Cornish engines.
