Lincolnshire is the main county for growing polythene. Polystyrene beads are sown in winter just after crops are sown and with any luck the two ripen together so that the veg can be harvested pre-packed.
On reflection, I think I ought to point out that this is just meant as a joke as I've heard that some child thought cucumbers were grown in the plastic wrappers and another that different cows were milked for skimmed, semi-skimmed and full-fat milk. Groan!
