East Guldeford
East Guldeford
A marsh settlement built on lands purchased by Sir Richard Guldeford from Robertsbridge Abbey after the marshes had been inned in the late 15th century. The family was from Guildford and originally called their settlement New Guldeford before becoming East instead. Between the 15th and 18th centuries the village was connected to Rye via a ferry. This view was taken from the marsh.
