The inscription on the bench reads 'Campaign to save Durford Heath Path, August 1997 - August 2001'. This was a successful campaign to prevent the path being reclassified as a BOAT (Byway Open to All Traffic), which would have allowed motor vehicles - principally trail bikes - through this area of Greensand woodland
