The area around the A8 has been much changed by the construction of lorry roadways in the 1950s and the HEP station in the 1970s. As neither A8 or A7 are used for carrying electricity cables, both have been allowed to deteriorate. The presence of a tunnel at higher level through the incline indicates that there was a rubbish run there which has been obliterated by later tipping.
