Kitchener Memorial, Marwick Head
Kitchener Memorial, Marwick Head
The Kitchener Memorial was paid for by donations from the people of Orkney and marks the spot where, just off the coast, the cruiser HMS Hampshire sank in June 1916. Of 667 Officers and men on board the ship that night just 12 survived.

There is a huge amount of controversy about the sinking of the Hampshire and various conspiracy theories abound. This website here LinkExternal link gives a good summary of them and some more background to the memorial.
