Memorial to Polish airmen
Memorial to Polish airmen
This memorial situated by Hamblethorp swing bridge is the newer of two to seven members of a Wellington Bomber which crashed nearby. The Wellington took off from Skipton on 23rd of September 1943 and one of the wings fell off, all seven of the Polish crew were killed.
This memorial was unveiled in April 2007. A smaller, simpler memorial still sits by the canal towpath about 50 metres away.
