Dduallt spiral under construction
Dduallt spiral under construction
The construction of the lower reservoir for the Tanygrisiau Hydro Electric Pump Storage scheme necessitated the construction of a new deviation line in order to re-open the Ffestiniog Railway through to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The new line needed to gain height quickly from its connection with the existing line at Dduallt so a spiral (the only one of its kind in the UK) was constructed. In this 1976 vintage picture the embankment and bridge carrying the new line over the existing line from Tan y Bwlch can be seen along with a construction train of waggons for carrying excavated material from further along the formation.
