Former railway station, Monaghan
Monaghan was an intermediate station and block post on the GNR(I) line from Portadown Jct, via Armagh, to Clones and Cavan. The railway reached Monaghan in 1858. This station, which replaced the original (which was slightly further to the north east) in 1863, was designed by Sir John Macneill (with later work done under William G Murray). The line closed in 1957. H6734 : Monaghan Railway Station shows the building in October 2011.
