Gormanston signal cabin

Gormanston station opened, under the Dublin & Drogheda Railway, in 1845, becoming part of the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) in 1876. The signal cabin, at the Belfast end of the down platform, was a standard GNR(I) design found at many stations including Ardee N9690 : Old railway at Ardee and Malahide O2246 : Malahide Signal Box. Now closed, at the time of the photograph it was usually switched out (as in the photograph) to give long-section working between Balbriggan and Mosney. It can also be seen at upper left in O1766 : Train at Gormanstown station (May 1988).
