The house in the arboretum developed in 1860s by Algernon Bertram Freeman - Mitford (later 1st Lord Redesdale). This was the home of the famous Mitford sisters. The house was sold in 1919 to Gilbert Alan Hamilton Wills, later the 1st Lord Dulverton and in 1984 Batsford Park was donated to a charitable trust founded by the 2nd Lord Dulverton to ensure the future of the arboretum.
