This image shows the east face of the stack. The original and most frequented climbing route runs up this face. The route runs up the left pillar at the base, down to just above and left of the bright area about one third across the stack, up the crack above this point and then trending right up to the notch in the skyline. Given that the prevalent wind direction is from the west or south-west the eastern face is most often sheltered so that climbers are sheltered from the wind even on blowy days such as this one.

This image also shows the fracturing at the top of the stack mentioned in HY1700 : Summit of the Old Man Of Hoy. The top of the north (right) section of the stack is clearly a separate pillar.
